Attached below are the notes from the Parent/Committee meeting that was held Monday November 13th.

High Adventure: Dec 2023 and Summers 2024 and 2025

Posted on Nov 15 2023 - 8:02pm
Philmont
Winter Philmont: The crew would probably leave Richardson on Dec 31, 2023 go directly to Philmont, overnight in the backcountry on Jan 2nd and 3rd, Return to Philmont base on Jan 4th, and ski at Red River on Jan 5th and 6th and return to Richardson on Jan 7.  The minimum crew is 4 scouts and 2 adults over 21.

Summer Philmont 2024: The troop does not have a date, although almost any date is available. The minimum crew size is 6 scouts and 2 adults.

Summer Philmont 2025: The crew has a date of June 22nd-July 4th. This is a prime date as Cimarron has its annual Rodeo on July 4th and the crew could see it before departing Cimarron.  The minimum crew size is 6 scouts and 2 adults. Remember scouts presently in the 7th grade will have completed 8th grade by then and are eligible to go in 2025. To keep this date the troop must make a $150 per person deposit before Dec 1st, so we need commitments as soon as possible.

Northern Tier
Summer Northern Tier 2024The troop does not have a date, although any even-number date is available. The minimum crew size is 6 scouts and 2 adults.

Popcorn Sales at Tom Thumb throughout November

Posted on Nov 15 2023 - 8:01pm
We have secured a  location to finish off our popcorn sales at:
Tom Thumb
18212 Preston Rd
Dallas 75252

The manager is letting us setup a table inside out of the way of traffic for each weekend in November.

I am going to add these to Trails end tonight for those who want to sign up and get to that next level. I am hoping we have a big push here at the end in order to get rid of our last bit of product. This will hopefully be gone in 2-3 weekend sales! I also have ordered chocolate covered pretzels so if you are ready to start selling those, they will be available November 9th!!

2024 Winter Camp - We must have adult volunteers for MB counselors and other positions in order to hold camp

Posted on Nov 2 2023 - 8:25pm

We are excited to present the merit badge offerings for the 2024 Winter Camp, January 12-14 at Lake Lavon Conference Center! We have a variety of classes and think the Scouts will have a blast.

The first step in planning is to get our volunteers and merit badge counselors. Once we have the counselors, we will open up class registration. Please complete by November 2

We have three volunteer opportunities:

  • Driver Only - please register to drive and provide seatbelts. Since camp is so close (~45 mins), you do not need to stay at camp.
  • Volunteer at camp - we need six or so adults to help out with managing lost boys, taking photos, delivering snacks, etc.
  • Merit Badge Counselors - critical to the success of Winter Camp! Please select the class and whether you would like to lead or help.
We cannot hold a Troop 1001 Winter Camp (warm cabin with food cooked for you) if we don't have enough MB Counselors/teachers by November 2. If not, we will be forced to cancel ours and use the District Winter Camp option at Trevor Rees Jones (in tents the last week of Dec). Please email wintercamp@troop1001.org with questions.
