Drew Hodnett Eagle Project July 22 and 23

Posted on Jul 19 2023 - 2:42pm

My name is Drew Hodnett.  I have been in Troop 1001 since 2018 and have just recently moved on to working on my Eagle Project.  If a few people could donate a couple hours of their time or a small sum of money, it would go a long way to helping my beneficiary.

My chosen project is to create a small outdoor classroom space for the Fine Arts program at my current school, John Paul II High School in Plano.  This is needed by the department due to several of the fine arts classes sharing the same class space at the same time.  Creating an outdoor space would allow for the 3D Art, 2D Art, and Woodshop classes to all have spaces to work without interfering with one another's work.

My workdays will be the afternoons of July 22 & 23 and the link to sign up for spots is: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0A45A5AD22AAFA7-andrew.

The link for my GoFundMe is: DREWH GOFUNDME

If you need to contact me about questions or availability, you can reach me at dubscayde@gmail.com.

Thank you all very much for your support,

Drew Hodnett, ASPL

Ethan Kilgard Eagle Project

Posted on Jul 19 2023 - 2:42pm

Hello, my name is Ethan Kilgard. I have been a Scout in Troop 1001 in Richardson, TX for the past 7 years and it is now my time to earn the rank of Eagle and complete my Eagle Scout project.

My project is the design and installation of eight animal and plant identification signs for the Spring Creek Nature Area. These signs are needed in the City of Richardson community to help those who know little about the urban environment get an idea of what the popular park holds. If someone is walking a trail and sees a bird that they can't identify, it will be a pleasant surprise to find a sign that identifies it. This may spark their curiosity to learn more. I know most of my own peers could not identify what snake or bird they came across. If this could help just a few people better understand their surroundings, then it is more than worth it. Finally, it benefits the City of Richardson because it could increase the number of people in the Nature Area and other parks as people are more likely to return to the park if it can interest them. The project cost comes from the high-quality, long-lasting signs and posts that will be installed, and the various tool and material expenses.

Thank you so much for considering supporting my Eagle project. Every donation helps and I appreciate it greatly.

Hale Scout Reservation offers over 50 activities and has 2 pools, Lake Bohannon, a climbing wall, a COPE course, and even a ski slope for the winter sports merit badge. The approximate total cost is $525 per scout which includes the food and the motorcoach bus to and from. The final amount will be determined prior to the 5/1 final payment date.

BSA Swim Test for Troop 1001 and Troop 444B and Troop 444G

Posted on Mar 24 2023 - 9:17am

You MUST sign up for a time slot to do your test.  The Signup Genius can be found by clicking HERE (note that this is the only place to register...there is no registration on the troop website)

The annual Troop Swim Test is upon us.  This test is required to participate in any BSA water related activities.  So if you are a Scout or an Adult who plans to participate in any Troop water activity, Summer Camp, High Adventure Trek, or other BSA event, join us on Monday April 3rd at the JCC of Dallas (7900 Northaven Rd, Dallas, TX 75230).  Let the gate attendant know you are with Troop 1001/444. We will enter the facility and check in at the fitness center.  You can find a map of the facility here: MAP

To help alleviate waiting in line, please sign up for a slot for each Scout and each Adult that wish to take the test.  (Older Scouts please consider taking later slots to allow younger participants the early evening spaces) In addition, Adults please consider taking a volunteer slot to help make the event a success.  We really need your help to make this Troop activity efficient.

Cost is just $5.  We will collect the money at the door. Please bring exact cash if you can as change will be limited.  Arrive a few minutes early to fill out the JCC Participant and Waiver form.  Before you depart, MAKE SURE YOUR RESULTS ARE INPUT IN THE TEST FORM BY THE ADMIN.

The test will consist of:

"Jump feet first into water over the head in depth. Level off and swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: sidestroke, breaststroke, trudgen, or crawl; then swim 25 yards using an easy resting backstroke. The 100 yards must be completed in one swim without stops and must include at least one sharp turn. After completing the swim, rest by floating."

If you have any questions, please email SummerCamp@Troop1001.org or text Jeff Martin @ 972-333-7280
