Popcorn Sales Opportunity - This Saturday

Posted on Oct 6 2016 - 9:57pm

Popcorn Show & Sell has been arranged for this Saturday evening.

Popcorn Update

Posted on Oct 4 2016 - 2:15am

Attention Scouts (and parents)! Popcorn sales are your chance to earn credit to your troop scout account to help pay for your big May campout trip, summer camp, and even high adventure. Everybody helps with Cottonwood and Flags, which helps keep boy fees as low as possible. 28% of all the popcorn you sell will help fund your part of the cool stuff that’s coming up. Plus, you get to earn prizes.

Popcorn from the new vendor Camp Masters is very good, especially the “Mauve” popcorn. Yes, naturally mauve (purple)! Read about it on the back of the prize selection handout.

Boys may take orders all September through October 10. Turn in orders, money, and your prize choice at that Monday scout meeting.

Here are some helpful sales tips:

  • set a goal and go for it! (to raise $200 for a big camping trip, divide $200 by .28 so $715 sales)
  • be polite, wear your uniform, and use the short, proven script below
  • stay safe: don’t go into people’s houses, don’t go to houses after dark, go with an adult or buddy
  • keep money and checks (make to "Troop 1001") in an envelope with your name and phone number on it
  • do not request donations, but you may accept donations freely offered

The script that works! (keep eye contact, really use the superlatives, good attitude)

Hi, Sir / Ma’am, my name is _______(first name only). I’m a Boy Scout with Troop 1001. We’re selling popcorn to help raise money for our Troop. You can help us by trying some of our INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS POPCORN. You will help us, WON’T YOU? (remember to say Thank You, even if they don't buy.)

Contact Patti Otte at patti@otte.us for additional order forms. Contact Lisa Bascom at contactlisab@hotmail.com for a unique code per scout to email friends/family for online order placement.

Show and Sell October 8/9. We plan to have opportunities for boys to sell popcorn outside a local store. More details TBA.

Cottonwood Art Festival - 9/29 to 10/2

Posted on Oct 1 2016 - 9:44am

Richardson’s Cottonwood Art Festival is Troop 1001’s main fundraiser. The troop makes money 4 ways: 1) tips from the artists, 2) a payment from the city, 3) water sales, and 4) general public donations.

Troop 1001 families are requested to volunteer a minimum of 8 adult hours for each Scout. Scouts can earn service hours after he volunteers 8 hours. The entire Troop is needed to support the Cottonwood Art Festival. Sign up on-line using Sign-up Genius at:

http://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0E4DACAB2CA20-cottonwood5

We need each adult and youth volunteer to print, sign and return the City of Richardson volunteer rlease form ASAP.

There are six shifts that we need to staff:

  • Friday, September 30 (8am-9pm): Need about 15 adults to greet artists, and 50 adults - 30 scouts to setup the artists.
  • Friday, September 30 (6-10pm): Need 4 adults for the Beer Garden Artist Dinner.
  • Saturday, October 1 (9am - 8pm) and Sunday, October 2 (10am – 5:30pm): Need Scouts all day to sell water. Need Adults all day for Booth Sitters, the Artist Hospitality Tent, and help with artist carry-outs.
  • Sunday Night, October 2 (5pm – 10pm) - ALL HANDS ON DECK!!! – We need everyone to help artists with load-out. We will be available for artists to request assistance until 10:00pm.
