Boy Scout Troop 1001 Scouts for Food
One element of the Scout Law is, "A Scout is Helpful." About 10 scouts and ___leaders of Troop 1001 in Richardson, Texas gathered on Saturday, February 20, 2010 to live out this portion of the Scout Law. Together with scouts all over the Dallas area, they participated in the annual event, Scouting for Food. This event is the largest single-day food collection in Dallas and is one of the largest in the nation. Every year in February, local Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts go door-to-door collecting canned foods to help supply food pantries in the Circle 10 Council area.
Troop 1001 Scouts collected 1,075 cans of food and $50.00 cash which was all donated to the North Texas Food Bank Richardson Branch. First year scout, Clint Kruse of Richardson, Texas said, "It is a good feeling to know that we are helping feed the hungry in our neighborhood. It is also a lot of fun to be out with my friends doing something good for someone else."
After collecting food, the scouts, leaders and adult volunteers were treated to a wonderful lunch at Macaroni Grill in Addison, Texas.
