scoutmaster_patch_color Hello all Scouts and Scouters,

Happy Birthday Boy Scouts of America!

This is a very special time to be a Boy Scout. Your great-great grandsons may be the next generation to be active Scouts during a centennial celebration. Thank you to Val S. for providing cupcakes decorated with a Troop theme and also to past Scoutmaster David W. for closing the celebration with a special Scoutmaster Minute.

Our 2010 Derby Day winners have been announced. Congratulations to the following patrols!

  • First Place: SWOL patrol
  • Second Place: Carnivorous Ninja patrol
  • Third Place: America’s patrol
  • Judges Choice: Merv Patrol
  • Most Durable: Spam Patrol
  • Most Original: Narwhal patrol

Next Campout is this Friday, 02/12

Our next campout is this weekend. We will meet in the TBC parking lot at 5:30 on Friday, 02/12 9 am on Saturday, 02/13. This is our annual Camporee Prep event which will be held at Camp Wisdom. In addition to our usual rotations we will also stage a mobilization. This satisfies a requirement of the E-Prep merit badge that isn’t covered at summer camp. See the campout information on this page for details, maps, equipment list, and weather forecast. The weather will be moderately cold so remember to wear layers, a hat, gloves, and have a warm sleeping bag.

As with Camporee, Patrol Spirit will be extremely important this weekend. Bring your patrol flag, yell, and be ready to have fun. There is a special surprise for the winning patrol.

Register now for the Spring NYLT – National Youth Leadership Training

There is still time to register for the Spring NYLT sessions starting March 14 and March 15. These are the last two sessions before summer break. All current and prospective Patrol Leaders should attend NYLT. Follow this link to register – http://www.c10nylt.org/

Scout Sunday

Thank you to all who attended the Scout Sunday service. This was a very moving service opened by our SPL TJ F. followed by an inspirational message by Pastor Jeff Miller. After the service a group of Scouts and Scouters attended a Sunday school event where each of us spoke for a few minutes about Scouting and how it has impacted our lives. I would like to express my sincere gratitude and praise to TJ F., Jack R., Kevin M., and Ryan C. for their outstanding part in this event. Each Scout spoke from the heart and shared their feelings and funny stories. You each left a fantastic impression on the classroom full of adults you spoke to.

Scouting for Food

Our annual food drive will be Saturday, February 20. With the continuing economic conditions and high unemployment the need for donations of food is greater than ever. If our whole troop works together we can make a big difference in the lives of those less fortunate. We need each Scout to step up to this challenge and live the Scout Oath “to help other people at all times”. Watch this web site and your newsletter for details.

Next regular Troop meeting is Monday, 02/22 – No regular meeting after the campout.

On Monday, 02/22, the boys will work on fire building. Remember, the fire is built before you light it. Invest your time wisely to build a good campfire. One part tinder (dry and fluffy), two parts kindling (toothpick to pencil size), fuel wood as needed.

Now is the time to sharpen all of your Scouting skills before Camporee in March.

Yours in Scouting,
Scoutmaster Payette
