scoutmaster_patch_color Hello Scouts and Scouters,

Derby Day Campout is this weekend – Be Prepared for COLD weather

Please be in the TBC parking lot by 5:30. We want to be on the road by 6:00.

The temperatures could get in the low 20s Friday night. Be prepared for this cold weather. Make sure to wear layers, a warm hat, gloves, and warm shoes or boots. For sleeping gear you will need a dry set of clothes to change into and a VERY warm sleeping bag (rated 10 degrees or lower) or use two sleeping bags, one inside the other. These are just a couple of suggestions. Other options are also possible, so if you take precautions the weather won’t be a problem.

This year’s derby will be held during the January 29-30 campout at Erwin Park in McKinney. Now is your last chance to put finishing touches on your cars. There will be prizes for speed, durability, originality, and “Judges Choice,” so make your cars fast and original!

See the campout link on this page for more details. Make sure your patrol has enough helmets for each passenger in your car.

For family members who want to watch the derby, it will be held from 1 to 5 pm on Saturday, 01/30.

This campout will be only one night. The Scouts have voted to come home after the derby. Please be prepared to pick up your Scout at 6:00 pm on Saturday, 01/30 at TBC.

Living Campout Display

To commemorate Scout Sunday and the 100th anniversary of Scouting, Troop 1001 will set up a “living Campout Display” on the TBC grounds. The display will include tents, chuck box, campfire, and live Scouts! It will help share the news of our 100th anniversary with passersby on Campbell Road and show that Scouting traditions are alive and well at Trinity Bible Church.

The living display will be staffed form 4:30 to 6:00 on Tuesday, February 2nd and Thursday, February 4th.

Trail to First Class Scouts should attend. This will be a great opportunity to complete the personal fitness requirements and more.

Scout Sunday

Sunday, February 7th, is “Scout Sunday”. All Scouts should plan to meet at Trinity Bible Church at 8:30 that morning. The service will be over by 10:15. This is a Full Class A event. TBC provides a fantastic home for our troop. Please show your appreciation by attending this special Scout service.

Scouting for Food

Our annual food drive will be February 20th. With the continuing economic conditions and high unemployment the need for donations of food is greater than ever. If our whole troop works together we can make a big difference in the lives of those less fortunate. We need each Scout to step up to this challenge and live the Scout Oath “to help other people at all times”. Watch this web site and your newsletter for details.

Next regular Troop meeting is Money Monday – February 8 – It’s already Money Monday again!

On Monday, 02/08, the boys will work on lashings and prepare their menus for the February campout on 02/12-14. Remember to bring your signed permission slips and money for food.

Now is the time to sharpen all of your Scouting skills before Camporee in March.

Yours in Scouting,
Scoutmaster Payette
