Correction Wednesday, June 3, 2009: The campers will return on Saturday, June 13 at approximately 2 pm to Canyon Creek Elementary School.

Updated Tuesday, June 2, 2009. Please review for new information.

Summer Camp 2009 will be June 7-14 13 at Hale Scout Reservation near Talihina, Oklahoma. The HSR Leaders' Guide is written for adult leaders but has lots of information of interest to parents. Transportation will be by motor coach.

Scouts should meet at Canyon Creek Elementary School, 2100 Copper Ridge Drive in Richardson at 8 am, Sunday, June 7, 2009. The bus will return to Canyon Creek Elementary on Saturday, June 14 13, at approximately 2 pm. Please park on the street rather than the driveway to allow room for the bus and pack lines. Place cots in the cot line and backpacks in the pack line.

Scouts must travel in full class A uniform: BSA shirt, pants or shorts, belt, neckerchief, and slide. It is a good idea to wear a Troop 1001 Class B t-shirt underneath. Pack a sack lunch and include a full water bottle. This should be the large, durable water bottle you keep with you all week. Please avoid messy foods and sugary drinks. Please do not bring candy, snacks, sodas, or aerosol products to camp. Please also leave electronic items such as phones and iPods at home. They may not be used in camp and are easily lost or damaged when living in the out-of-doors for a week.

Scouts should bring money for merit badge class materials, souvenirs and snacks at the trading post. For the cost of merit badge classes in which you are enrolled, see the HSR Merit Badge guide. The Trading Post catalog will give you an idea of souvenir costs. Scouts who bring just enough cash will have less to lose than those who bring an excess.

Please see the article Summer Camp 2009 Packing List for a detailed list.

Please bring prescription medications in an original bottle with dosage and doctor's name. Place prescription and over-the-counter medications in a plastic zipper bag and include a note with the scout's name, name of medication, dosage, and when it is to be taken. Please turn the medications in to Mrs. Van Hamme Sunday morning.

Each Scout who has an inhaler or epi pen should carry it on his person all week so that it is readily available if needed. Mrs. Van Hamme must be informed that the scout is carrying these medications. It is recommended that a second inhaler or epi pen be given to Mrs. Van Hamme in case the first gets lost or damaged.

Troop caps will be available for purchase Sunday morning for $15. A few Class B shirts may also be available.

Mrs. Van Hamme thanks all the parents for their cooperation in completing all the paperwork necessary for summer camp and troop records. It has been a big help.

Emergency contact: During this trip, Rick Goad will remain in town and will coordinate emergency communications with the campers. His mobile number is 214-802-3298.
