For Scouters:
Update Thurs, Nov 15, 6 pm: The location has been changed to McGee Creek Natural Scenic Recreation Area near Atoka, Oklahoma to cut the driving time by more than half. The terrain is still rugged and the theme is still hiking and wilderness survival and you still need to prepare the same way.
The November campout will be to the Ouachita National Forest near Talihina, Oklahoma for hiking and wilderness survival. As usual, we will meet in the TBC parking lot at 5:30 pm Friday
to form up and load up. We will return Sunday about 12:45 pm to the
hospital parking lot across the
street from TBC.
This is not your average campout, so read carefully. It is imperative that you are properly prepared. Friday night, we will sleep in tents at base camp near the cars. But Saturday morning, the troop will break camp and hike on wilderness trails, backpacking all necessary camping gear and food to a wilderness campsite for Saturday night.
Be sure to wear sturdy shoes or hiking boots. All your gear must fit in your backpack and you must leave room for
your share of your patrol's food and equipment. So leave your 15 pound
reclining camp chair at home. If you do not have a backpack, contact Scoutmaster Coon or your patrol leader immediately; they may be able to arrange a loaner. If you have a compass, bring it. If you don't have one, consider buying an inexpensive model such as this one .
Scouts should have already paid $10 toward their patrol food. If you plan to attend and have not paid, you must contact your patrol leader immediately to ensure adequate food has been procured.
