Summer is here, but you don't have to remain stuck in front of a video game until September.  Here are some opportunities to sharpen your Scouting skills and give your thumbs a rest.

Merit Badge College—Many classes are already filled, but Scouts age 13 and up can enroll in one or more merit badge classes or add their names to a wait list.  This year, two sessions are being held: July 16-20 at the Eastfield Campus (Mesquite) of the Dallas County Community Colleges and July 23-27 at the Spring Creek Campus (Plano) of the Collin County Community College.  Registration started June 6 so sign up as soon as possible.  Classes are small and fill up quickly.

Golden Acorn—This leadership training is for boys who are both First Class rank or above and age 13 or above who are in leadership roles or want to prepare for one.  Six sessions, five days each, are scheduled during the month of July at Camp James Ray.  Three sessions are already filled, so sign up as soon as possible.

  • Be prepared:
  • Read about it. Be sure to read the rules, parents' letter, and equipment list.
  • Register
  • Bring a signed Class 2 medical form (doctor's signature) with the Class 1 portion also signed by your parents.  If you went to summer camp, contact Scoutmaster Coon early if you need a copy of your current Class 2 form.

Stay tuned—check this article frequently for new activities and opportunities.
