BASIC LEADER TRAINING FOR BOY SCOUT LEADERS is offered at Hale Scout Ranch (HSR-our summer camp). ALL adult leaders attending summer camp who are not trained in New Leader Essentials and Scoutmaster/Asst. SM training should plan on attending these sessions. The remainder of the sessions are optional, and highly encouraged so that we may continue to bring a first class program to our award winning Troop 1001 Scouts! Adult Leader Training offered at HSR is comprised of: New Leader Essentials for all unit leaders. Scoutmaster & Asst. Scoutmaster Specific training is offered in three sessions. (You must complete all three sessions of Scoutmaster/Asst. SM Specific training to complete this training.)
Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills.
SUPPLEMENTAL TRAINING: Health & Safety Do not enter the "Risk Zone" unprepared. An objective of this course is to promote and achieve unit leadership understanding and acceptance of responsibility for the well-being and safety of Scouts entrusted to their care when they lead unit activities. (This is not a First Aid course.) Safe Swim Defense Before a BSA group may engage in swimming activities of any kind, a minimum of one adult leader must complete Safe Swim Defense training, have a commitment card with them, and agree to use the eight defenses of this plan. Safety Afloat has been developed to promote boating safety and to set standards for safe unit activity afloat. Before a BSA group may engage in an excursion, expedition, or trip on the water (canoe, raft, sailboat, motorboat, rowboat, tube or other craft), adult leaders for such activity must complete Safety Afloat training, have a commitment card with them, and be dedicated to full compliance with all nine points of Safety Afloat. Trek Safely is the BSA's recommended procedure for organizing and carrying out outdoor treks that involve Boy Scout, Varsity Scouts, and Venture's. Trek Safely applies to all types of outdoor experiences that involve trekking, including hiking, backpacking, canoeing, horseback riding, caving, rafting, kayaking, sailing, ski touring, mountain climbing, and mountain biking. Trek safely training is required for all adults taking a Philmont or Double H Ranch trek. Leave No Trace (intro) Learn Leave No Trace principles and discover how they can be applied while earning the Leave No Trace Awareness Award for Boy Scouting and Venturing youth and leaders. (This is not a Leave No Trace Instructor course.)
ADDITIONAL TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES:
American Red Cross Wilderness First Aid course is an intensive introductory course on caring for accident or sudden illness victims when emergency medical help is not immediately available. Topics include assessing the situation, prioritizing care, and supporting the victim until emergency help is available. Specific care is discussed for severe bleeding, head and spinal injuries, breaks, burns, shock, and illnesses related to the environment.
This training is made possible through your adult leader camp fees. |
