[Ed. note: at the meeting, scouts will don their loaded packs and take a shakedown hike to the park and back. The weather promises to be frigid, so dress very warmly.]

pl_patch_colorAt the January 15 meeting, we will be preparing for our hiking and wilderness survival campout.  Bring your pack (hiking) with the gear you plan to bring on the campout as well. We will be having a shakedown to make sure you bring the right stuff and that you don't bring too much. For those of you who have hiking tents and are willing to share them on the campout, bring them to the meeting so they can be inspected. If you have a hiking stove, you may bring it to lend. Also, you may want to bring a warm stuff-sack sleeping bag on the campout.

At the meeting, we will also be learning about the Map and Compass from Richard, and Backpacking and Packing from Grayson.

The campout next weekend, on January 19th, will mainly be hiking. There are two trails, one is 3-miles, one is 8-miles. We may split up into groups depending on people's ability to hike. While on the hike, we may be learning things about hiking during short breaks. It would be wise to bring comfortable hiking boots and a warm jacket.

The troop will be supplying dinner, but patrols will need to pack lunch and two breakfasts. Any more information will be told to you next meeting.

A note from Alby:

Golden Acorn staff applications are now on the GA website at http://www.goldenacorn.us/. You must be 14, Life, and a graduate of Golden Acorn training to be a part of the staff. So far we have two people staffing this summer: Alby B. and Alex V. I'd like to see more people staffing who can.

Thanks

Alby B.
