Summer Camp results; Budget Meeting 6/14/06
Announcements
Wednesday, 14 June 2006
Hello all Scouts and Scouters,

Anyone interested in participating in the budget process for the next scouting year should plan to meet at TBC 7:00pm Wednesday, 6/14/06. Contact Mr. David Wakefield if you have questions about the meeting.

Last week at summer camp the scouts of Troop 1001 continued the tradition of excellence for which our troop is known. We were honored with the best campsite of the week. During the final day of camp the troop won First Place in the relay, (swimming, running, canoing & rowing), we also took the top spot in volleyball. Second and forth place awards were also given to troop members in the Sailing Regatta. And we had a lot of fun as well.

Some of the features of camp included a portable outdoor misting system which helped us survive the incredible heat during the first half of the week. A special thank you for that innovation goes to Mr. LeClair. We even had a portable washing machine built from a bucket and a plunger that allowed our scouts to stay clean (at least some of them).

Our new Patrol Leader's Council did an incredible job of managing the troop and the time at camp to make sure that 1001 was well represented in all activities. Under Kane's leadership we managed to get the entire troop to and from Hell's Gate in canoes. The only way we could have had more fun is if we stayed another week. I know I speak for many when I share that I am looking forward to a very exciting year in 2006-2007.

Thank you for your son's participation. When the swelling of the bug bites go away the memories will linger on.

Yours in Scouting,
Hal Coon
Scoutmaster 1001

Scouting for Food
Announcements
Saturday, 15 April 2006

Twenty-one of our Scouts and ten adults came together to collect canned goods last Saturday. When all was done we had collected over 1400 items for the needy in our North Texas community. That is an average of over 60 items per Scout, so you see how our good deeds can be multiplied. Thanks to Dean Voight and Theresa Dolan for making this happen.

Winter Survival Camp

The campout at Sid Richardson Scout Ranch near Bridgeport, TX (map) Jan 27-29 was pretty cool. The patrols accepted the challenge of building shelters for Saturday night, and each came up with a different solution. They showed great ingenuity and Scout spirit in working together, and toughing it out when things got frosty. See this PDF file for an idea of what it was like.
