We had a great turnout at the last meeting on February 26 when we went to the hospital. Everyone seemed to have a good time at it, even though there wasn't a lot going on at the hospital.
Camporee is coming very soon, on March 23 - 25. This weekend, March 2-4 is our Pre-Camporee campout. We only have about 17 people going, but we can always take more! We will spend Friday night at Cherokee with our tents, somewhere near the tower. Then we will be climbing the tower till noon, and then we will be hiking to our campsite in Meisenbach, where we will ditch the tents and create our own shelter. The hike will be long, so wear the right shoes and socks.
Please bring a hiking backpack that you will be able to carry for about half an hour. No tubs or bags, please, since you will be the one carrying it. Also, there will be no real stoves, only hiking stoves, so bring hiking food that doesn't need to be kept cold and doesn't take up a lot of room. Whatever you bring, you will have to carry. Be at the church at 5:30 sharp so we can get to Cherokee quicker.
Wedneseday will be loading the trailer, so all quartermasters, and those who want to help, come to the church at 6:30.
Golden Acorn is coming soon, and if you want to staff, ask Alby.
We really would like more people to come on this campout so that we can all be prepared for Camporee!

Hello all Scouts and Scouters,
We had a great camp out this past weekend in Austin. Thank you to all
that helped out.
We have two service events this weekend. Please make plans to attend
both. Each scout participating in Saturday's food drive will receive
service hours toward rank advancement.
This Saturday, February 10th, is the annual Scouting for Food drive.
This year is different than last year. We did not leave bags out last
weekend, so we will be knocking on doors and asking for our bags to be
filled on Saturday. Contributions from troop 1001 families are also
welcome. We need to collect more that 1200 pounds of food to do better
than we did last year. Please be at the church at 8:30 in your Class A
uniform. We will start with donuts and hot chocolate at 8:30 and we
should be finished about noon.
Sunday morning, February 11th, we will be celebrating Scout Sunday at
the Trinity Bible Church at 400 West Campbell in Richardson.. Please
plan to arrive by 8:30am in your Class A uniform. Patrol leaders will be
contacting certain scouts to assign door duty and Color Guard
responsibilities. We need a big turnout to show the church membership
our gratitude for their sponsorship.
Please see the troop website regarding the plans for the next meeting
Monday February 12th. There will be merit badge classes resuming at
6:00pm followed by the regular 7:00pm meeting.
I look forward to seeing you this weekend.
Yours in Scouting,
Scoutmaster Coon

The turnout for the Austin trip was great. Thank you for all of those who came on the campout to represent the troop. Everyone seemed to enjoy the capitol and the scavenger hunt. Now it is time to get ready for our next campout.
We will be getting ready for the Camporee at our next campout, Camporee Prep on March 2. The theme for Camporee this year is "Wilderness Survival." The next few meetings, we will be working on all the Camporee tasks, which are Orienteering, Fire Building, Signaling, First Aid, Shelters, and Food and Water.
At the February 12 meeting, we will probably be working on Orienteering and a little bit of Signalling. There will be a fifteen minute review on Orienteering, and then we will go outside for an Orienteering course. It will have six stations in it, each leading up to the next one. Between each station will have something to do with Signalling. Remember to bring back all the tents taken home to dry!
This Saturday, February 10, is Scouting for Food. This year will be different. We did not leave out bags, so we will be going around with bags to be filled that day. Be at the church at 8:30 in your Class A. We should be finished about noon.
The next morning will be Scout Sunday at TBC. Come at 8:30 in your Class A to help with the service. Some people will need to do the flag ceremony. Others will greet and hand out bulletins.
Please come to all of these meetings and activities. There all very important!

This coming Friday the troop will be leaving to Austin for the Report to State. If you are coming, arrive at TBC at no later than five-thirty so that the bus may leave by six. If you have not paid your money for the trip yet, bring the twenty-five dollars that you need on Friday with the additional money for lunch on Saturday and souveneirs. Please do not bring ANY electronics or skateboards.
On the bus, there may be Patrol Corners and possibly a movie. For the patrols that don't have their patches sewn on yet, patrol leaders or any other people can use the time on the bus to sew their patrol patch onto their uniform. Remember to also have all your patrol things. Bring a sack dinner to eat on the bus as well. There will be no stops for anything.
Bring all of your Class A things, like the neckerchief and socks, so that we may leave a good impression. Dress for the weather, since the temperature may be cool and there is a very slight chance rain. Be Prepared! Bring a compass as well for the Orienteering course we will be having after the parade.
Don't forget all your camping gear! We will be camping like normal!
Quartermasters will meet at TBC at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday to load the trailer.
Travis K.
