One hundred years ago today on February 8, 1910, the Boy Scouts of America was formed. Trinity Bible Church is the home of Troop 1001 and is celebrating the Centennial in a visible way. With prominent frontage on Campbell Road in Richardson, directly across from the Richardson hospital, Troop 1001 set up a mock campsite and banner on Trinity's front lawn to promote Scouting and the troop. The display has been up all week leading up to the Centennial Day.
On Sunday, February 7, Trinity and many churches across the nation recognized the event as "Scout Sunday" with special observances. Troop 1001's new banner proclaims, "Be a man, join Scouting!" and displays BSA's "Timeless Values" logo. On last year's Scout Sunday, Trinity's senior pastor, Jeff Miller, referred to Scouting, quoting a 1993 court decision as "... one of the seedbeds of virtue that cultivate the sorts of citizens our nation so desperately needs.

Our annual Scouting for Food drive is this Saturday. We will be meeting at TBC for route assignments at 9am. We still need adult volunteers to act as "riders" to assist the drivers. After we are finished collecting the donated food, we will be going to the Macaroni Grill located on Beltline Rd. in Addison. Our tentative return time to TBC from Marconi Grill is by 1:30 pm. This time could be earlier depending on the amount of participants so please be available to pick up your Scout at TBC earlier if necessary. Please contact Melissa Harmon at at

Hello Scouts and Scouters,
"We like to camp in sun, wind, and rain (Ice and Snow!)"
We had a great campout last weekend. Downed trees at Camp Wisdom forced us to cancel Friday night's camping but Saturday was a lot of fun. In spite of the unusual schedule, weather conditions, and distractions (snowballs) the Scouts did a great job of adapting and finished everything they planned to do. They cooked some impressive dinners including, chicken fajitas, Philly cheese steaks, Dutch oven lasagna, and even ice cream.
After the Saturday Camporee prep events the Campfire had an Olympic theme.
Congratulation to our medal winners:
- Gold: Swol Patrol
- Silver: America's Patrol
- Bronze: Dr. Pepper Patrol (in spite of having only TWO Scouts!)
Scouting for Food is this Saturday, followed by pizza at Macaroni Grill
We need your help to collect food this Saturday, 02/20. We will meet at TBC at 9:00 on Saturday and should be finished by noon. After we pick up the food we will all head over to Macaroni Grill and have Mr. Watts' hand-made pizza!
Please contact Alex O. ASAP so we can include you in our count. Your help is very important. Please plan to be there.
Camporee is coming soon - 03/05 at Camp Cherokee
Camporee is only two weeks away. Now is the time to finish honing your Scouting skills and be ready do put them to use during the competition. Camporee is a competition of Scouting skills, songs, cooking, root beer chugging, and lots of other fun events.
At Camporee Patrol Spirit is extremely important. Bring your patrol flag, yell, and be ready to have fun

Update 7:50 pm Friday:
Camp Wisdom has cleared the way for our campout to start Saturday morning. The troop will form up at 9 am Saturday, Feb 13 at TBC and depart shortly thereafter. Most campout activities will occur as planned.
The troop will return at the originally scheduled 12:45 pm Sunday to the hospital parking lot across from TBC.
Should any further changes occur, we will notify via email and on the troop Web site. Please check one or the other before you depart home Saturday morning.
Patrol Leaders - Call your patrol members again
It is critical that you call ALL of your scouts ASAP with this information.
Many are without power and can't access the web site. If answered by a
machine, leave a message and then try another number for that scout. It is imperative that you make positive contact with each family.
Due to the impact of the weather to the Camp Wisdom facility, the adult and youth leadership have decided that we must cancel the Friday night camping portion of this weekend's campout. We are considering leaving for Camp Wisdom as early as 9 am Saturday but need to monitor conditions before we can establish a firm a departure time.
Current conditions have resulted in many downed tree limbs within the metroplex and lots of downed trees at Camp Wisdom where camp site roads are impassable. The camp ranger is working to clear the roads but will not be able to determine the availability of a camp site until late tonight or tomorrow morning. He is hopeful that there will be a camp site available Saturday night. We are still pursuing options for Saturday which may include the use of the large Cub World facility.
We will post the most current information as it develops via email and on this Web site. Please check one or the other frequently to learn the revised plan. Be prepared for a departure as early as 9 am Saturday.
Webmaster's note: When checking the web site, be sure to refresh or reload your screen to view the most current information. There is usually an icon or the key combination Ctrl-R for that in most browsers.
If you want to add another email address to the Troop 1001 list, follow the instructions at this link.

Scout Sunday
Thank you to all who attended the Scout Sunday service. This was a very moving service opened by our SPL TJ F. followed by an inspirational message by Pastor Jeff Miller. After the service a group of Scouts and Scouters attended a Sunday school event where each of us spoke for a few minutes about Scouting and how it has impacted our lives. I would like to express my sincere gratitude and praise to TJ F., Jack R., Kevin M., and Ryan C. for their outstanding part in this event. Each Scout spoke from the heart and shared their feelings and funny stories. You each left a fantastic impression on the classroom full of adults you spoke to.
Scouting for Food
Our annual food drive will be Saturday, February 20. With the continuing economic conditions and high unemployment the need for donations of food is greater than ever. If our whole troop works together we can make a big difference in the lives of those less fortunate. We need each Scout to step up to this challenge and live the Scout Oath “to help other people at all times”. Watch this web site and your newsletter for details.
Next regular Troop meeting is Monday, 02/22 – No regular meeting after the campout.
On Monday, 02/22, the boys will work on fire building. Remember, the fire is built before you light it. Invest your time wisely to build a good campfire. One part tinder (dry and fluffy), two parts kindling (toothpick to pencil size), fuel wood as needed.
Now is the time to sharpen all of your Scouting skills before Camporee in March.

Update February 14, 2010:
Please be at Trinity Bible Church parking lot by 6:15 pm on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010 for transportation to BAT class at the Dallas Elks Lodge with one of the crew advisors. We will return to TBC around 9:30 PM.
Update February 11, 2010:
The BAT classroom session scheduled for tonight has been postponed until Tuesday, Feb 16, 2010 due to the weather. Please watch this web site for an update on group transportation.
We had a very productive meeting on Sunday, thanks for getting your son there. We split the guys into 2 crews for the trip at Sunday's meeting, selected Crew Learders and started the process of selecting itineraries for each crew. The crew lists are below, the name in bold is the Crew Leader. We also distributed a health form to each boy, please make sure to keep track of this form as we don't get any extra copies and the Philmont Health Department is very picky about only accepting their form for the current year. It is a 3 page connected sheet printed on both sides. The completed and signed health form is due back to me or Mr. Reisinger by May 2, 2010.
We are starting Backcountry Advanced Training this Thursday 2/11 Tuesday, 2/16 from 7-9 pm. Please have your son at TBC by 6:25 if you want to take advantage of the advisors for transportation, we will return around 9:30. Please stay tuned to this web site for a group transportation update. The class meets Tuesday 2/16 and Thursday 2/18 at the Dallas Elks Lodge, the weekend campout is Feb. 26-28 at Camp Meisenbach. There is more information and links on this web site, click the High Adventure link . Your son will need to bring payment ($25) for the class to the meeting this week.
One final important note, the next payment of $285 is due next Monday Feb. 15, 2010. The Troop is required to make a payment to Philmont this month, so we need to make sure all boys Philmont accounts are paid up.
Thanks for your support, and please let me know if you have any questions.

Advancement through the ranks is one of the most important parts of Scouting. The extent to which a boy participates in the advancement program largely governs the benefit he gains from membership and the length of time he stays in Scouting. First year scouts in particular need to be rewarded for their hard work and accomplishments.
Parents!! You should encourage your Scout to make advancement his own personal goal. Review the advancement requirements in the Boy Scout handbook with your Scout and help him set obtainable goals. He should then talk to his patrol leader about the requirements he needs to complete. Part of the Scouting experience is for the Scout to take on the responsibility for their advancement. We want your son to be a successful Scout and enjoy all that Scouting offers.

Hello Scouts and Scouters,
Derby Day
Our 2010 Derby Day was a success. The boys’ creativity and spirit was in high gear to create some really unique cars. Lots of family members and spectators were on hand to watch the four heats each car (ok, most cars) raced for that top trophy. One car raced three of the four heats without any wheels! Now that’s Scout Spirit!
Six trophies were awarded at the end of the races. Watch this page for pictures and a list of winning patrols.
Next Campout is 02/12 – It’s Money Monday™ Already!
Our next campout is Friday, 02/12. This is our annual Camporee Prep event which will be held at Camp Wisdom. In addition to our usual rotations we will also stage a mobilization. This satisfies a requirement of the E-Prep merit badge that isn’t covered at summer camp.

Living Campout Display
To commemorate Scout Sunday and the 100th anniversary of Scouting, Troop 1001 has set up a “living Campout Display” on the TBC grounds. The display includes tents, chuck box, campfire, a huge commemorative banner, and live Scouts! This display helps share the news of our 100th anniversary with passersby on Campbell Road and show that Scouting traditions are alive and well at Trinity Bible Church.
The living display will be staffed form 4:30 to 6 pm on Tuesday, February 2 and Thursday, February 4.
Trail to First Class Scouts should attend. This will be a great opportunity to complete the personal fitness requirements and more.
Scout Sunday
Sunday, February 7th, is “Scout Sunday”. All Scouts should plan to meet at Trinity Bible Church at 8:30 that morning. The service will be over by 10:15. This is a Full Class A event. TBC provides a fantastic home for our troop. Please show your appreciation by attending this special Scout service.
Scouting for Food
Our annual food drive will be February 20.
Next regular Troop meeting is Monday, 02/08 – It’s already Money Monday™ again!
On Monday, 02/08, the boys will work on Lashings and prepare their menus for the February campout on 02/12-14. Remember to bring your signed permission slips and money for food.
Now is the time to sharpen all of your Scouting skills before Camporee in March.

Scoutmaster Payette
