Health Forms from Ryan C., Mark K., Ray P. and Maron W. have not been turned in. Please make arrangements to deliver your Health Form to Mr. McClure.
Parent Meeting on Monday June 14 at 7:00 PM at TBC. We will review the trip itinerary, explain our expectations for conduct, make sure we have all the necessary documents and signatures and answer questions. At least one parent per family and the Scout attending is required at this meeting. The boys will have a gear check and need to bring their pack and gear ready for the trail.
Updated itineraries available (6/10/2010):
Flag Program: Thanks to all the guys who participated last Saturday morning picking up the 200 flags around the Canyon Creek neighborhood. We will be distributing the flags again this Saturday, meet at the TBC parking lot at 9:00 AM. We should be done before noon. Participation in this project is reducing your travel costs, all crew members have agreed to assist with this project, please let me and Zack Mohn know if you have a conflict. Remaining dates are listed below;
-
Flag Day - June 14, 2010
-
Distribution: 9 am, Saturday, June 12
-
Pickup: We will be at Philmont, the Troop will cover this one
-
Independence Day - July 4, 2010
-
Distribution: 9 am, Saturday, July 3
-
Pickup: 9 am, Saturday, July 10
Tent Stakes: Each boy will need to have 10 tent stakes in his possession when we depart on June 17th. The Philmont tents that we will be using do NOT come with stakes, they are also necessary for the dining fly. The stakes can be purchased at an outdoor store or REI. I don't recommend spending a lot of money on these items since they tend to get lost. One option that we have used in the past is Gutter Nails that are available from Home Depot. They are inexpensive, relatively durable and lightweight.
Thanks for your support and let me know if there are any questions.
Thanks,
Kirk McClure

We are less than 3 weeks from our departure so please make sure to read this update and take appropriate action. Mr. Reisinger has a friend living at Philmont who reports that they have received the most snow on record since January, so all streams and springs are flowing strong. Also the temperature continues to be in the 30's at night in the area, so be prepared.

Departure for summer camp will be from Canyon Creek Elementary School, 2100 Copper Ridge Drive in Richardson on Sunday, June 6. Scouts and parents should arrive at 8 am for check-in.
Important information:
- Please park on the street; reserve the school driveway for checking in and loading up
- Parents: please check in with your son and please remain until the bus departs; we may need you for
information or to resolve an issue
- Place your cot and backpack or duffel in the pack line to be stowed in the belly of the bus
- Turn in medications at check-in
- Carry a small day pack aboard the bus containing:
- A raincoat
- The water bottle you will be using during the week (filled); a belt clip is very helpful during the week
- Nutritious lunch. Please do not include messy foods or sugary or sticky drinks. Lunch will be on the bus and we have to keep it clean.
- Wear close-toed shoes; flip flops are not allowed at camp
- Wear your full Class A uniform, including neckerchief
- Check the packing list and weather report, but pack for hot, cool, and rainy conditions regardless
- Do not pack aerosol cans of any kind. Sunscreen, insect repellent, and antiperspirant must be lotions, pump sprays, or sticks. Aerosols violate BSA policy and will be confiscated.
- Label everything with the scout's name and "Troop 1001." You've always wanted labeled underwear, haven't you?
The local emergency contact during summer camp will be Tana
Van Hamme. She will be carrying the troop cell phone: 214-693-0934.
Please only call for true emergencies.
Every camper, boy or adult, must have a completed medical form on file to attend summer camp. All parts, A, B, and C, must have current signatures dated after June 11, 2009, including a doctor's signature on Part B. Scouts lacking the form will not be allowed to board the bus. If you have any doubt about your status, contact Mrs. Van Hamme ASAP.
Troop 1001 maintains a "Yahoo Group" to help parents stay up to date
with the news from summer camp. If you son is camping, you can expect to
receive an email invitation to join the group. When you receive the
invitation, please take a moment to follow the link in the
message to confirm your subscription. The news from camp will only be
accessible to subscribers.

Be Prepared!
Philmont Crew: Flag Service, Sat, May 29, 9 am
Summer Camp Adult Meeting: Mon, May 31, 7 pm
Summer Camp: June 6 - 12
Philmont Treks: Jun 17 - July 1
Hello Scouts and Scouters,
Monday was our last troop meeting of the Scouting year. The boys went over what to pack and what NOT to pack for summer camp.
We have a large number of scouts attending summer camp and a huge campsite that will easily accommodate everyone. As with all campouts, there will be separate scout and adult camping areas.
We pride ourselves on having a boy led troop. Each scout must do his part to make a boy led troop successful.
If a scout wanders into the adult area with a question, he is asking for adult leadership. Unless there is an emergency, scouts should always work with their patrol leader or other senior scouts for questions or guidance. This is part of what keeps Troop 1001 boy led.
Summer Camp – 06/06-12 – Hale Scout Reservation
Summer camp is just around the corner. Stay tuned to this web site for details on gear packing, weather, departure information, and more. You can also visit www.halescoutreservation.org for information about the camp facilities.
Remember – you must have the full medical form (Parts A, B, and C) signed by a doctor to attend.
Philmont Crews – Flag service this Saturday
If you are on one of the Philmont crews please meet at TBC at 9:00 am on Saturday, 05/29, to help set up flags. This is a Class A event and will help subsidize the cost of the Philmont treks this summer.
Lake Texoma campout.
The boys had a great time at Texoma. The highlight was boating and tubing on the lake. Special thanks to Mr. Hajek and Mr. Keelan for bringing their boats and giving the boys a white knuckled ride around the lake on their tubes. Congratulations on the SWOL patrol for earning honor patrol for the 2009-2010 season. The honor patrol was invited to a special year-end dinner with the adults including beef tenderloin spiedini, asparagus, and a fantastic Lemon Passion cake for dessert. Thank you Mr. Watts for providing this great dinner and thanks to all the adults who pitched in to cook. It takes a lot of adults to support a boy-led troop. We all appreciate the dedication and cheerful service of our adult leaders who help make Troop 1001 possible.
Hail to the new PLC!
During our Lake Texoma campout elections were held and many Patrol Leader Council positions were filled.

The troop is in desperate need of more drivers for this weekend. Even if you do not want
to camp with us you could drive up and return on Sunday its only a little more than an hour and a nice drive straight up 75.
Since this Lake Texoma campout is pretty close to home, the troop will host a parent
meeting primarily for all the new parents at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 22, to see the
troop in action, observe the fun opportunities to volunteer and get your questions
answered. Plan to stick around for a nice dinner prepared just for the adults before
campfire.
If you are an adult and planning to come on the campout or to our parent meeting
on Saturday afternoon, please let Rick Goad know if you have not already. We need a count for food.

Be Prepared!
Friday, May 21
- Meet at TBC at 5:30 pm for campout
Monday, May 24
- Troop Meeting, 7 pm
- Parent Meeting, 7 pm - Summer Camp prep
Hello Scouts and Scouters,
Monday was our Spring Court of Honor. Special thanks go to our Masters of Ceremony, Andrew M. and James M. They did a fine job of planning the event and keeping it running smoothly. The evening included an opening by Pastor Jeff Miller, awards, skits, an incredibly funny song by Clint K. and Will S., slide show by our historian Trevor R., and closing comments by Grady Frank. There was a special presentation to our Committee Chairman, Doug Miller for his tireless dedication and passion for this wonderful program. Thank you Doug!
The evening ended with a fantastic reception catered by our troop chef, Terry Watts.
Thanks to all who helped make this event a success and congratulations to all of our boys for their accomplishments this year!
BSA Swim Test
For all of you summer campers, if you missed the swim tests we held last week you can still make it up at summer camp. You might have to wait in line with all the other troops taking the test so be sure to wear your sun screen.
Sign up for summer camp
If you haven’t already done so, don’t wait any longer to sign up for summer camp. This is a fantastic week of camping, advancement, fellowship, and fun! Many scouts will earn four or more merit badges during the week and those working on their trail to First Class will complete lots of requirements toward Tenderfoot, Second Class, and First Class. Contact Mrs. Van Hamme ASAP if you haven’t registered yet.
All brand new Scouts who are still processing paperwork – you must have your BSA Youth Applications turned in before you can register for summer camp. Don’t wait on this.
All participants must also have the BSA medical form (parts A, B, and C) filled out, including a doctor's signature in the last 12 months, in order to attend.
Elections Saturday, 05/22, during the campout
We will hold our elections during the next campout. If you haven’t yet signed up for next year’s position you must do so now. New Patrol Leaders must be First Class or above to run for office and must also complete Oak Leaf and NYLT training before or during your time in office. We will need up to eight Patrol Leaders so I encourage all scouts who are willing to put in the extra effort to run for these important positions.
Next Campout – Lake Texoma, fishing, boating, elections, special year-end campfire
May 21-23 is our Lake Texoma campout. There will be swimming, boating, fishing, and elections for new Patrol Leaders. See this site for details. This is our last campout before summer break. The weather is looking good, so let’s all be prepared to make it a great weekend.
Next meeting – 05/24 – Summer Camp packing
We usually don’t hold a meeting after a campout, but this is our last chance to meet before summer camp and summer break. In this meeting we will go over what and how to pack for summer camp. We will also have a refresher on how to properly pack and be prepared for rain and cold. There will also be a parent meeting at the same time to go over summer camp material. See you there!
Yours in Scouting,
Scoutmaster Payette
