Camporee is this weekend!
During the March 19 meeting, there was a rope-tying, stretcher-carrying race, where everyone did well. Also, Richard's patrol, the Lucky Ducks, won the skit contest. Their skit will be performed at Camporee.
The Troop Quartermaster and the patrol quartermasters need to be at the church parking lot at 5:30 pm on Wednesday. They will be loading the trailer and working on the gateway.
Patrol Leaders: Remember to have your patrol meetings so that you can work with your Camporee stuff. Work on your yells, flags, and cheers.
This Camporee will be like all the others: rainy. Bring 100% raingear so that you can stay nice and dry and perform well. Don't forget to bring your Class B as well.
[Ed note: see the article Camporee March 23-25, 2007 for more details.]
Communications Merit Badge
This is a letter from Mrs. Lofley for those in the Communications Merit Badge class:
We will attend a work session of the Richardson City Council on Monday, March 26. You will need to take notes, observe how well the meeting participants make their points and communicate their views, and you will then write a short report on what you've seen.
Plan to meet at Trinity Bible Church at 5:30 p.m. We will travel together to attend the 6 p.m. meeting in the Richardson Room of the Richardson Civic Center/City Hall. We should return to Trinity Bible Church by 7:30 p.m.
Attending this meeting and writing the report will fulfill requirement no. 5 for your merit badge. If you cannot attend this meeting, you will need to attend another public meeting (with your couselor's approval) and write a report about it.
Please let Mrs. Lofley know if you will attend at 972-690-5804 or

Camporee is on the weekend of March 23!
There was a great turnout at the meeting on March 12, even though most people were on spring break. There will be a meeting next week with more Camporee prep. There will probably be a knot relay and a stretcher race. Quartermasters may need to come early to get supplies ready. Patrols will also need to work on a somewhat Boy Scout related skit. Adults will need to stay after dropping off their kids for a meeting.
The Personal Fitness Merit Badge is on this Sunday, March 18, at the JJ Pearce High School track. This is Eagle required!
Patrol Leaders: Remember to have patrol meetings to work on flags, patches, skits etc. Also, call Kane to tell him how many of your guys are going on Camporee. Call before Thursday!

We had a great turnout at the last meeting on February 26 when we went to the hospital. Everyone seemed to have a good time at it, even though there wasn't a lot going on at the hospital.
Camporee is coming very soon, on March 23 - 25. This weekend, March 2-4 is our Pre-Camporee campout. We only have about 17 people going, but we can always take more! We will spend Friday night at Cherokee with our tents, somewhere near the tower. Then we will be climbing the tower till noon, and then we will be hiking to our campsite in Meisenbach, where we will ditch the tents and create our own shelter. The hike will be long, so wear the right shoes and socks.
Please bring a hiking backpack that you will be able to carry for about half an hour. No tubs or bags, please, since you will be the one carrying it. Also, there will be no real stoves, only hiking stoves, so bring hiking food that doesn't need to be kept cold and doesn't take up a lot of room. Whatever you bring, you will have to carry. Be at the church at 5:30 sharp so we can get to Cherokee quicker.
Wedneseday will be loading the trailer, so all quartermasters, and those who want to help, come to the church at 6:30.
Golden Acorn is coming soon, and if you want to staff, ask Alby.
We really would like more people to come on this campout so that we can all be prepared for Camporee!

The turnout for the Austin trip was great. Thank you for all of those who came on the campout to represent the troop. Everyone seemed to enjoy the capitol and the scavenger hunt. Now it is time to get ready for our next campout.
We will be getting ready for the Camporee at our next campout, Camporee Prep on March 2. The theme for Camporee this year is "Wilderness Survival." The next few meetings, we will be working on all the Camporee tasks, which are Orienteering, Fire Building, Signaling, First Aid, Shelters, and Food and Water.
At the February 12 meeting, we will probably be working on Orienteering and a little bit of Signalling. There will be a fifteen minute review on Orienteering, and then we will go outside for an Orienteering course. It will have six stations in it, each leading up to the next one. Between each station will have something to do with Signalling. Remember to bring back all the tents taken home to dry!
This Saturday, February 10, is Scouting for Food. This year will be different. We did not leave out bags, so we will be going around with bags to be filled that day. Be at the church at 8:30 in your Class A. We should be finished about noon.
The next morning will be Scout Sunday at TBC. Come at 8:30 in your Class A to help with the service. Some people will need to do the flag ceremony. Others will greet and hand out bulletins.
Please come to all of these meetings and activities. There all very important!

This coming Friday the troop will be leaving to Austin for the Report to State. If you are coming, arrive at TBC at no later than five-thirty so that the bus may leave by six. If you have not paid your money for the trip yet, bring the twenty-five dollars that you need on Friday with the additional money for lunch on Saturday and souveneirs. Please do not bring ANY electronics or skateboards.
On the bus, there may be Patrol Corners and possibly a movie. For the patrols that don't have their patches sewn on yet, patrol leaders or any other people can use the time on the bus to sew their patrol patch onto their uniform. Remember to also have all your patrol things. Bring a sack dinner to eat on the bus as well. There will be no stops for anything.
Bring all of your Class A things, like the neckerchief and socks, so that we may leave a good impression. Dress for the weather, since the temperature may be cool and there is a very slight chance rain. Be Prepared! Bring a compass as well for the Orienteering course we will be having after the parade.
Don't forget all your camping gear! We will be camping like normal!
Quartermasters will meet at TBC at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday to load the trailer.

The troop will be going to the Report to State next weekend, the weekend of February 2nd through 4th. The troop will be taking a bus, and please, NO ELECTRONICS. Each patrol will need to have its patch, flag, yell, and song prepared by the time we leave. Everyone will also need to bring his own sack dinner. The bus will not stop for any food. Finally, each Scout will need his own money for lunch on Saturday; $10 should be sufficient.
At the January 29th meeting, we will be going over the campout and what we will be doing there. We may be practicing drills for the parade as well. February 11th is Scout Sunday at TBC. We would like to have people there to greet and to do a flag ceremony. Everyone will need to be in the Fellowship Hall by 8:30. We want to make a good impression with the members of TBC, since we use their church for our meetings. Please be on your best behavior!

[Ed note, Januay 19: weather forced cancellation of the weekend's activities altogether.]
There has been a change of plans. The campout has been canceled because there were not a lot of people going. But, we are still doing something over the weekend. The PLC is planning to go on a day hike at Cedar Ridge Preserve.
Everyone who is going must be at the church at 8 o' clock am on Saturday so that we can leave at 8:30 sharp. Eat before you come! You will not need your hiking backpack; the patrol leaders should be carrying a day pack for their patrol. Wear your Class A with clothes for the weather underneath so that you can change when you get there. Bring and carry your own lunch and lots of water.
On the trail, there may be some classes as we take breaks about orienteering and lessons for Camporee. We should be done hiking at 3 pm, and be back at the church at 4.
Don't forget, there is still a PLC meeting on the Monday, January 22nd at 7 pm. Also, there is the High Adventure meeting at the same time.
If you could not come on the campout, but can come on the hike, please come! The more people we have, the better!
