Hello all Scouts and Scouters,
We had another great campout this weekend. The scouts climbed, hiked,
built wilderness shelters and cooked on backpacking stoves. Thank you to
all that attended and to all the Scouters that made this a fun event. A
big thanks to Scouter Roggie H. for the fantastic food and the
demonstration of proper packing for a backpacking trip.
Tonight there will be a meeting of the scouts taking the First Aid merit
badge at 6:00pm at the TBC. The other MB classes will resume next week
with the regular troop meeting. The Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) will
meet at 7:00pm in Class B Uniform.
Be sure and check the web site later in the week for updates regarding
next week's meeting.
Thank you for your support of Scouting in our community.
Yours in Scouting,
Scoutmaster Coon

We continue Camporee preparation this Monday night. Subjects will include proper use of fire, safe food and water handling in the wilderness. All registered scouts should plan to attend.
Merit badge classes continue at 6:00pm sharp. Citizen in the Nation and First Aid are currently scheduled.
If you took a tent home to dry after the last campout you should return it no later than this Monday.
We have a workday planned at the TBC on Saturday February 24th. Details will be given to the scouts on Monday night.
A special Scoutmaster recognition will be given for the cleanest joke. As always check the website to stay informed.

Hello all Scouts and Scouters,
We had a great camp out this past weekend in Austin. Thank you to all
that helped out.
We have two service events this weekend. Please make plans to attend
both. Each scout participating in Saturday's food drive will receive
service hours toward rank advancement.
This Saturday, February 10th, is the annual Scouting for Food drive.
This year is different than last year. We did not leave bags out last
weekend, so we will be knocking on doors and asking for our bags to be
filled on Saturday. Contributions from troop 1001 families are also
welcome. We need to collect more that 1200 pounds of food to do better
than we did last year. Please be at the church at 8:30 in your Class A
uniform. We will start with donuts and hot chocolate at 8:30 and we
should be finished about noon.
Sunday morning, February 11th, we will be celebrating Scout Sunday at
the Trinity Bible Church at 400 West Campbell in Richardson.. Please
plan to arrive by 8:30am in your Class A uniform. Patrol leaders will be
contacting certain scouts to assign door duty and Color Guard
responsibilities. We need a big turnout to show the church membership
our gratitude for their sponsorship.
Please see the troop website regarding the plans for the next meeting
Monday February 12th. There will be merit badge classes resuming at
6:00pm followed by the regular 7:00pm meeting.
I look forward to seeing you this weekend.
Yours in Scouting,
Scoutmaster Coon

Hello all Scouts and Scouters,
Tonight we will begin at 6:00pm with a Citizen in the Community and
First Aid merit badge class. The patrols will practice forming up and
marching tonight in the parking lot. There is a scoutmaster prize for
the winning patrol in tonight's practice march.
During tonight's meeting we will be making final plans for this
weekend's event. Each patrol should have its flag ready and patrol
patches on uniforms for the parade on Saturday. The cost is $25 per
scout. We need to do our best to fill at least 50 seats with Scouts and
Scouters from 1001. It would be ideal to fill all 56 seats.
Any Troop 1001 scout that has recently been awarded Eagle should plan to
attend. If you know someone that has not been in attendance lately
please let them know about our 'urban campout'. We really want to
represent North Trail and Circle 10 with the largest, proudest group of
scouts we can muster.
This trip differs from most due to its urban setting. More adult
supervision will be required for this reason. This trip is also unique
since we will share transportation - the bus. We will need a minimum of
two adults per patrol participating in the scavenger hunt to ride on the
bus. Two Deep Leadership will remain in effect all weekend. We will
send an advance group down early Friday with the trailer, tents and
other troop gear. Personal gear will be stowed on the bus.
Each Scout planning to work toward the Citizen in the Nation or
Orienteering merit badge will need to make sure to get a blue card from
me or the advancement committee before the weekend.
Let's get ready for a memorable weekend at the state capital.
Yours in Scouting,
Scoutmaster Coon

Hello all Scouts and Scouters,
I hope you all had a wonderful break. Mr. Miller and I had a great time
between Christmas and New Year with seven scouts attempting to bring
the Winter Camp Sled Race trophy home. They won their heat and made it
to the finals but did not win in the final race.
I thank those parents who gave their sons the opportunity to attend. I
hope we can take a bigger group next year and bring the Sled Race
trophy home. We maintained the troop tradition of camping in Sun, Wind
and Rain just like the troop song says.
There is a lot planned for tonight due to a busy spring planned. We
need to make sure we have enough
adult leadership available for these events to ensure the Scouts meet
their goals. Each family should plan to have at least one parent
or guardian attend tonight's meeting.
Tonight at 6:00pm any eligible scout that does not have
his First Aid Merit badge should plan to attend. There is a schedule on
the website for this Eagle required award.
Also tonight at 6:00 pm, the God and Country program continues. Tonight and January 15 are the last dates to fulfill requirements for the award if it is to be received at TBC's Scout Sunday service, February 11.
There will be a meeting for adult parents and guardians starting
at 7:00pm. The purpose is to schedule adult leadership to
participate in the events through camporee. Also to inform about the
high adventure opportunities available to your son as well as the cost
and planning requirements for same.
The Scouts will be meeting tonight to discuss:
- Lightweight stove preparation and use
- Low impact camping or leave no trace
See you tonight at the TBC!
Yours in Scouting,
Scoutmaster Coon

All parents and scouts are encouraged to attend.
We have extended an open invitation to any area Webelos that are seeking to join a high adventure scout-led troop to come and enjoy a meal and campfire with us.
Full Class A Uniform is assumed. Those that display additional regalia will be acknowledged by special scoutmaster award.
The schedule for our Court of Honor is as follows:
Setup
1:00 Load Trailer at TBC (Quartermasters and Sr. Patrol)
2:00 Arrive at Breckinridge Park, Pavilion C for setup. Sr. Patrol, Patrol Leaders, Patrol & Troop Quartermasters.
Court of Honor
3:00 All Scouts and Parents assemble at Pavilion C
3:10 Opening Flag Ceremony, Moment of Reverence & Announcements
3:30 Award Ceremony
4:30 Dinner
5:30 Can you say Trebochet?* or Punkin Chunkin
6:00 Campfire

(*Etymology: Middle English trebochet, from Anglo-French trebuchet : a medieval military engine for hurling heavy things (like pumpkins))

I look forward to seeing you all there.
