Be Prepared!
Remember:
- Permission form, signed by your parent
- $10 for your patrol's food plus $10 more for supplies and Saturday dinner (if not already paid).
- Check the weather forecast
- Pack or duffel with your personal gear (packing list on the permission form)
- Sack dinner for the road Friday
- Class A uniform
- Meet at 5:30 pm Friday
For Scouters:
Once again, Troop 1001 will be camping at Quail Alley (Mr. Ken Raney's ranch) outside Breckinridge, Texas, for the Fishing, Archery and Shooting Campout on the weekend of October 19-21, 2007. This annual October event has long been a tradition for the troop and is always one of the best campouts of the year.
Scouts should be at the church parking lot no later than 5:30 p.m. on Friday evening in Class A uniform. We will be returning about 12:45 p.m. Sunday to the hospital parking lot across Campbell Road.
Each patrol will cook its own breakfast and lunch Saturday and will prepare a side dish to share at dinner to accompany the main course prepared by the adults. If you did not pay $10 Monday for shotgun shells and the main course at the Saturday night dinner, bring it Friday in addition to $10 for your patrol's food.

Dear Parents,
Cottonwood is the troop's major fundraiser. Money raised from Cottonwood is used to fund
campouts, purchase camping supplies, pay for buses used on some of the camping
trips, and other troop activities. Every boy and parent in the troop benefits
from Cottonwood and as such we need every scout and adult to participate.
Each scout was given the information below, which describes how parents can assist. There will be having sign up sheets at the next few scout
meetings. I urge each of you to donate your
time generously. If you cannot donate
your time, the troop will kindly accept a donation of $75 or greater.
If you have any questions, please contact either Roy Carnes
at 214-223-2817 or Dan Bryan at 214-529-4862.
Thank you,
Roy Carnes and Dan Bryan
Cottonwood Arts Festival October 5-7, 2007
Cottonwood Arts Festival is the troop's main fundraiser. The troop makes money three ways (largest to
smallest): tips from the artists, a payment from the city, and water
sales. The more people helping the artists, the more tips we make. Based on
past years we need about 470 adult hours for Cottonwood to be successful, which
equates to about 9 hours of adult help per scout. We need everyone to help!
As this fundraiser benefits all scouts and parents, the
troop will be accepting donations of $75 for those families unable to
participate.
Opportunities to help
Friday, October 5:
Need help setting up the artist. Need 20 adults from 10:00 to 4:00 and 12 adults from 4:00 to
about 7:00
Saturday, October 7:
Festival hours are 10:00 to 6:00. Needed are 5 booth sitters and 4 beer garden attendants for each
2 hour shifts starting at 10:00 AM, 11:00 AM for the beer garden.
The booth sitter role is an excellent opportunity to for
those who enjoy shopping for art, to mix a little shopping with fulfilling this
important requirement. This role is
responsible for watching an artist booth during breaks and various other
artists tasks.
The beer garden role is one of the easiest roles at the show
and that is to make sure no alcoholic beverages are taken out of the beer
garden. This year we are suggesting that we have 2 uniformed adults are at each
exit.
Sunday October 8:
Festival hours are 10:00 to 6:00. Needed are 5 booth sitters and 4 beer garden attendants for each
2 hour shifts starting at 10:00 AM, 11:00 AM for the beer garden. Please roles above
Need everyone starting at 6:00 for artist tear down.
Other Opportunities to Help:
-
Redesign of the Troop Information Sheet
-
Troop Advisers are responsible for recruiting parents in
their patrols
-
Help on Thursday, October 4 packing trailer and setting up tent,
tables etc.
-
Staying late on Sunday to return and unpack trailer

While the Scouts are challenging themselves on the ropes course, why not challenge yourself to learn something about the Troop 1001 Web site, the Troop 1001 wiki, and the TroopMaster software that keeps our records. Galen Kannarr will lead an informal demonstration of the features that most interest the adults present Saturday evening. So stay around when you bring your son Saturday evening.

All Troop 1001 Parents,
We are having a Troop 1001 parent-committee meeting this Saturday, August 11, at Palomino's Buffet, SW corner of I-75 and Belt Line.
The meeting will take place at 9:30AM in a specific area on the premises. Please join other parents for a buffet breakfast (Dutch) and socializing beforehand if you like.
All committee chairs should have their "ducks in a row" as far as what they need (paperwork, volunteers, etc...) for the year.
We especially encourage our new parents to be in attendance so they will have an idea as to what the year is going to look like, and we strongly encourage them to get involved however feel they can best serve.
We are in serious need of a Troop Secretary to record the minutes of our parent and committee meetings. Nothing fancy required- just take notes at our meetings, then send them to the committee chair and scoutmaster by email. They will be proofread and posted to our website. If this sounds like something you would like to do, bring paper and pen and let me know before the meeting starts.
So far the year looks awesome, I am looking forward to getting the ball rolling again!
Doug Miller
Committee Chair, Troop 1001
